A Dominican-born hotel housekeeper, Carmen Castillo navigates serving on the City Council in Providence, Rhode Island, while working a full-time job cleaning hotel rooms. Most politicians aren’t  union members working service jobs, immigrants, and grandmothers. But Carmen changes that with determination to serve her community. After her election to the City Council, Carmen continues working her full-time job as she makes efforts to raise wages and clean up her neighborhood—and as corporate interests attempt to undermine their progress.
