
(she/her) As Senior Creative Consultant, Violet provides individualized mentorship for participants of the (Egg)celerator Lab program. She mentors filmmakers through various stages of production and post-production. She also guides them through their program year to help align their personal aspirations with their professional goals.
Violet is an Emmy® Award-winning independent documentary filmmaker, a member of the Documentary Branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), and an adjunct professor at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. Her Oscar®-shortlisted film Hidden Letters premiered in competition at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival, won ten international awards, and was broadcast in over 15 countries. Her feature Harbor From The Holocaust (2020) aired as a PBS/CPB special with music performed by Yo-Yo Ma, and her most recent film, The Dating Game (2025) premiered at Sundance.
Violet has directed, produced, and executive produced more than ten documentaries over the past decade, with selections at over 100 international film festivals and support from ITVS, Sundance, IDA, Chicken & Egg Pictures, Ford Foundation, Doc Society, and IDFA Bertha Fund. Her producing credits include Dear Mother, I Meant To Write About Death (2022), Singing In The Wilderness (2021), Confucian Dream (2019), Maineland (2017), and Please Remember Me (2015), which led to policy changes in China through a national impact campaign.
She began her career as co-producer on Nanking (2007), which received awards from Sundance, Peabody, and the Emmy® Awards and became one of the highest-grossing documentaries in China. Born and raised in Shanghai, Violet is currently based in New York City.
